Artful Teaching:
Preparing, supporting and retaining responsive teachers.
The Artful Teaching Project promotes an arts integrated, culturally sustaining approach to teaching as a catalyst for inspiration, creativity and joy in the classroom. Developed through a partnership of the Juneau School District, University of Alaska Southeast, and the Juneau Arts and Humanities Council, Artful Teaching provides collaborative layers of support for preservice and early career teachers, co-learning with mentor teachers and administrators through teaching artist workshops and residencies, coursework, art kits, and reflective practice protocols (ArtLabs). At its core, Artful Teaching is a practitioner-driven experience; honoring and empowering teachers to construct their own understandings and direct their own learning to deepen their practice of teaching in and through the arts and local culture.
The Artful Teaching project is made possible by a grant from Margaret A. Cargill Philanthropies.
